When to see the specialist today re tibia fracture in my right leg/ankle.
What a carry on I have had. The hospital was very busy as usual but they don't seem to have much organisation.
I arrived at 9.30 via ambulance. Appt was 10.45. Got the plaster taken off and told to wait to see the specialist. By this time he was running 30 mins late. Not too bad for him. Waited and waited. Sat in wheelchair for about an hour and half. Spoke to nurse who said he was looking at my notes. By this time there was an hour's delay to see him.I was then told I needed an xray, where the waiting time was an hour.
Why on earth didn't they put a note on the top of my records saying "take plaster off then xray". It mwoild save a lot of time.
Well xray done and the fracture was worse so he is going to put the metal rod back that he took out in December.
By this time I just wanted a stiff drink and a cry!!!!
Why does this happen to me? It will be my 21st operation in 14 years.
Love Marlene xx

Hi Marlene, Oh, you poor soul, what an awful morning! Was this at the Freeman? You must be so fed up, when nothing is straightforward. When will you have this next surgery? Let`s hope this does the trick and you can keep out of hospital beds for a long time to come! Take care, Kathleen x

Marlene, what a rotten frustrating time you're having. "Why on earth didn't they put a note on the top of my records saying "take plaster off then xray". you say? Because, that would have been SENSIBLE. YES I'VE CHANGED, PAIN DOES THAT TO PEOPLE.

Hi Marlene - so sorry about the way you were treated and then to know that you have to face more surgery. I would have been in bits. Did they bother to give you any sort of timescale for your op? Take care.

I am so sorry to read about the day you have had. I expect if there had been a Matron in charge you would have been seen in half the time and given the comfort you so obviously deserved. I hope you do not have to wait too long for your operation and that it is successful for you.

What a silly way to go about things. No wonder there are lengthy waits in departments. No sense.
Hope that you do not wait too long to have it put to rights. It is an awful thought having another operation but hopefully it will correct the problem properly this time.

Poor you - it sounds like a really tough day and then to be told you need another op on top if it all must have just been the icing on the cake, hopefully this time it will work for you though. xx

Dear Marlene,
It's no wonder that you are upset, by the sounds of things you've been through hell and back.
So sorry to hear you had such a terrible day at the hospital and only to find out that you have to go back in again must be so upsetting. Let's hope that next time round they get it right, and that you receive better attention and care. I think it might be worthwhile informing PALS of your experience, who knows, if more people report poor communication and care, they might do something about it.
Thinking of you,
love,

Hi Marlene
What a horrible time you must have had, and then to face another operation. No wonder you're feeling down. I don 't know why the NHS don't get their act together, and do things in the right order.
I hope by writing on here, and seeing the replies has helped you a little bit.

Hi to all my dear friends
Thank you so much for your kind words and love and hugs.
The specialist said he would put me down as an emergency. I am thinking that his idea and my idea of an emergency might be quite far apart. Still I am hoping that it wont be too long. I am keeping my mobile near me just in case.
My eldest daughter is off to visit her sister in Spain on Sunday so a part of me is hoping that I go into hospital when she comes back in a weeks time, as I am finding things rather difficult at the moment looking after myself and my 87 year old hubby.
Will keep you up to date with any more news.
I hope you are all enjoying some sunshine, although its bright here its still chilly.
Love Marlene xx

Hi all
Before I start I want to apologise for my ranting and raving!!
I got a letter from the hospital today giving me details of my pre-admission. The date given is MONDAY 12TH JULY. Well you can probably guess what I said to that!! Do they expect me to continue with a plaster and crutches plus pain for another three months? I thought my consultant informed me that I was an urgent/emergency case as I have had this fracture since middle of January.
I rang his secretary and she said she had just finished my notes (my appt was a week past Monday) and gave me a number and a person's name to call re the waiting list. I rang and guess what the person I needed to speak to wasn't in today. I spoke to a nice chap told me that in no way was I waiting until July for my pre-admission and then have to wait even more time for my operation to put the pin back which was taken out last December.
I don't think I am being unreasonable to want this done now and when I tell my daughters about this they will hit the roof!
Its going to be a case of push, push and more pushing.
Sorry I have gone on a bit but I was so annoyed when I got this letter, I am not one for getting so annoyed.
Thank you for letting me let off steam.
Love to you all Marlene xx

Dear Marlene
I am just so very, very sorry that this is happening to you. Very sadly it doesnt surprise me. I am not sure what is happening regarding surgery lists and urgent cases, but feel they are a casualty of the 'targets'.
I say this because I need to have an infected joint removed and it was put down as urgent just after Christmas, after a preliminary surgery to incise and drain a nearby abscess had failed. I have been having the wound drained daily by district nurses for 4 months now. I had the pre-op assessment 5 weeks ago and am due to have the joint removed on Tuesday (depending on bed of course!)
My health has gone downhill, I now weigh less than 7 st and have developed MRSA in the wound due to 5 months of antibiotics!
My tip to you is to keep phoning the surgeon's secretary as they seem to be the only ones who can help with surgery dates. My surgeon's secretary has been wonderful but still unable to get it done earlier than this. She is so very apologetic though and I get the feeling management have the last say because of the targets.
I hope you have a good GP to fight your corner with you as it is so wearing when you are in such pain already. My rheumatologist has been supportive and GP and district nurses, I think I would still be waiting if it werent for their anger and input. Family members can put pressure on too, it all helps.
Once again I am so very sorry and really feel for you Marlene. Like you this will be my 21st op and you get a bit weary of the whole rigmarole dont you! (big understatement).
Wishing you so much luck and hoping you will get some positive news soon regarding the op date.
Take care, Lizxx

No Marlene, you are not being unreasonable! You need to get this done, the consultant said it was an emergency so should be treated as such, and all this just makes more stress for you. I hope the chap you spoke to today can sort this out for you so that you get the op VERY soon!
Love and hugs, Doreen xx
